The style I employ is one to help tell the story of my ancestors as I learn it.

Through colonisation, still present to this day, I have had to learn my stolen culture by deconstructing it through my own experience and through tireless work.
Therefore through the literal deconstruction with paint on canvas of Māori mythological creatures and storytelling, I convey my personal experience of refusing to be disenfranchised by the crown any longer. For my whānau, for my tamariki, my elders and tūpuna.

For many Māori, we haven’t had the privilege of having our tikanga taught to us.
I have had to fumble along trying to learn my world of Te Ao Māori, with Te Reo being the gateway.
